Pamplona, Spain

A business trip took me to Bilbao, in Spain. The weekend before I took the chance to visit my sister that is temporary living in Pamplona, in the region of Navarra, not too far from Bilbao. Pamplona is well-known for its famous running of the bulls in the streets, during the San Fermin festival. The city lives and breathes for this festival, which are held once a year in July. Outside of the period of the festival, visitors can walk the same path used by the bulls and read all about it.

The red line marks the limit where people are allowed to stand and the beginning of the run of the bulls, who arrive through the bottom of the street. Right next to the line is a statue of San Fermin, to whom is made a prayer just before the race starts.

Ayuntamiento or Town Hall square

Moments before the beginning of the San Fermin festival people gather together in the Town Hall square. Everybody holds a red handkerchief above their heads until 8am, when fireworks are released, putting them on their necks afterwards.

The city of Pamplona is not very big, but it is very cosy and charming, with nice parks and antique but well preserved buildings.
